Learn to Salsa with JJSalsaRengue!

Salsa is one of the hottest and fastest growing club dances today. A distillation of Latin and Afro-Caribbean dance, salsa incorporates multiple styles and variations and is often danced in couples. Expect a multitude of turn patterns and fancy footwork that makes this dance unique, upbeat and spontaneous!

SALSA DANCE CLASSES
Salsa Beginner

Learn salsa from one of the pioneering salsa dance schools in Singapore!  You don’t need to have any dance background to join our beginner classes. These classes will teach basic salsa footwork, the right turn, cross-body-lead, cross-body-lead-turn, basic lead-and-follow techniques and fundamental partnerwork.

Salsa Intermediate 1; Intermediate 1.5 Intermediate 2; Intermediate 3; Intermediate 4; Intermediate/Advance; Advance

These are progressive salsa classes that will teach more fancy footwork, intricate hand changes and turn patterns. The focus will be on continuity in leading and following a series of moves, shines and styling. Int 1 to Int 3 classes are one-and-a-half-hour classes where the first half hour will be spent on warm-up and shines. The subsequent hour will teach partner work.

Salsa Cool Moves

Experience exciting turn patterns designed to take your styling, movement and dance floor confidence to the next level!  Taught by JJSalsaRengue salsa instructors, this set of 4 hourly classes will provide you with a strong repertoire incorporating hot techniques with each instructor’s personal take on ‘cool’.

The prerequisite is intermediate 3 salsa or the equivalent from a salsa dance school.  Please sign up with a partner as there will be no partner rotation in this class.  Instructors: Jackson & June, KC & Grace, Dennis & Gaik Leng.

Salsa Dips & Tricks

These classes will teach half and full dips, as well as simple tricks.  The focus will be on partner connection and the techniques to lead/follow a variation of dips.   Prerequisite is intermediate 2 level salsa or the equivalent from a salsa dance school.  You do not need to have completed Dips & Tricks 1 to attend Dips & Tricks 2.

You are required to sign up with a partner as there will be no partner rotation in this class.  Attire: sports or dance wear (e.g. track pants, yoga pants, tees).  No jeans or skirts.  Please come properly attired.

Let’s Salsa On2 (Level 1)

Prerequisite: To have at least completed Intermediate 1 and is familiar with basic salsa footwork, right turn, left turn, cross-body-lead, cross- body-lead-turn, open break and various copa (in-and-out) variations. Let’s Salsa On 2! Eddie Torres Style!

Developed and popularized in New York, the Eddie Torres On 2 style has since evolved into a worldwide salsa phenomenon. Danced increasingly in clubs and studios globally, you will more than likely be greeted with the “On 1 or On 2?” question when you go out to social. This class therefore seeks to aid the On 1 salsa dancers learn and transit smoothly into dancing On 2.

In this Level 1 series, you will be taught the basics of dancing, leading and following Salsa On 2. Beginning with a break down of the salsa music and its instrumentation, learn to pick out what to listen for to start and continue dancing On 2.The evolution and differences between dancing On 1 and On 2 will also be highlighted to aid you in better appreciating these various styles.

Emphasis will be placed on the practical application of the On 2 technique for a clear translation of theory into the actual dancing. Ultimately, this series will help you better understand, dance and feel Salsa On 2!

Let’s Salsa On2 (Level 2)

Prerequisite: To have completed Let’s Salsa On 2 Level 1 or at least have a foundation of the basic On 2 salsa footwork like right turn, left turn, cross-body-lead, cross-body-lead-turn, open break and various COPA (in-and-out) variations.

Now that you have grasp the basic foundation of doing On 2 the Eddie Torres way, let’s work on getting the feel and the style and eventually bringing it to the dance floor.

In this Level 2 series, you will be taught more moves and variations to increase your repertoire for doing On 2.  This would include both shines and turn patterns.  More importantly, there will be emphasis on the leading and following technique and timing.  The detailed breakdown will be especially useful for those with prior On 1 experience.

Emphasis will be placed on the practical application of the On 2 technique by dancing, dancing and more dancing in class.  Ultimately, this will help you build more confidence to dance and feel Salsa On 2!

Leading & Following in Spinning

This 3-week course is for salsa dancers targeting to work on their spinning techniques. The classes will also teach leading & following techniques in spins/turns, and how to be more confident in executing spins/turns by understanding and practicing spotting, alignment, frame/momentum and weight-change. Syllabus includes right/left turns, free spins, multiple spins in both solo and partnerwork.

Ladies’ Styling

You do not need to have completed Ladies Styling 1 to attend Ladies Styling 2, nor Ladies Styling 2 to attend Ladies Styling 3.

These classes are targeted at those dancing at the intermediate or intermediate/advance level – participants should be fairly seasoned dancers with steady footwork and good salsa fundamentals, ready to incorporate styling into their moves.  Expect arms/hands positioning and movement, how to spice up your basics, turns and cross-body-leads.

Men’s Styling & Shines

Teaches the gentlemen to execute footwork on men’s timing with body and arm movement.  These classes target to add more personality to your dancing and also to improve social dancing by doing more footwork to music.  Suitable for those at the intermediate or intermediate/advance levels.

You do not need to have completed series 1 to attend series 2.

Salsa Rhythms Intro Workshop

A sneak preview of what you can expect for the full Understanding Salsa Rhythms class, this one-hour session will give you a taste of the fun and knowledge to be gained. Briefly touching on the history, instruments and rhythms of salsa, join us and find out more on how you can improve your understanding of this hot, passionate dance.

Understanding Salsa Rhythms

A course in the basic rhythms that make up the unique sounds of salsa music, these 3 sessions will touch on the following:

HISTORY – Follow the evolution of salsa music and learn to recognize the prominent figures in salsa history.

INSTRUMENTS – The different instruments that make up salsa music and how to identify them. Instruments will be provided.

RHYTHMS – The basic rhythmic block of salsa music and how to understand their fit.

Tackling some of the questions and problems one might normally faced on the dance floor, this highly interactive course will also shed some light on issues such as finding the “1” and keeping time to the music. You don’t have to have a music background nor be extremely rhythmically inclined. This course will give you the tools and a headstart towards a better understanding of salsa music

With lots of hands-on experience on some of the percussion instruments that make up salsa music, this course is suitable for salsa dancers of all levels. So bring your dancing shoes and join us today for a fun, rhythmic experience.

Undulation & Isolation

This course will teach the techniques for body movement. Learn how to manipulate and control your body through a systematic approach with understanding of the physical anatomy and conscientious practice that will gear you towards being a more well-rounded dancer.
